Association Pierre et Alexandra Boulat

Pierre Boulat was one of France’s most distinguished photojournalists, a contributor to LIFE magazine for fifteen years and later Paris-Match, whose work included photographing Yves Saint Laurent’s first collection in 1962 and the Namibian desert landscapes used in Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. His daughter Alexandra co-founded the VII photo agency in 2001 and built one of the most acclaimed bodies of photojournalism of her generation, documenting conflicts across Yugoslavia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq, and receiving the World Press Photo Award, the Infinity Award from the International Center of Photography, and the Visa d’Or at Perpignan. Both were named Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters. Alexandra died in 2007. The Pierre & Alexandra Boulat Association was founded the following year by family and colleagues, among them Gary Knight of VII and Annie Boulat, to preserve their legacy and support emerging photojournalists through an annual grant.

de.MO was commissioned to develop the online archive and digital platform for the Association, working closely with Annie Boulat and Gary Knight to create a documentary photography website that brings the full breadth of Pierre and Alexandra’s work together as a single, cohesive body.
