Phillip Toledano

Phillip Toledano is a London-born, New York-based conceptual artist working across photography, installation, sculpture, painting, and video. His work begins with an idea, and the idea determines the medium. The result is a body of work of remarkable breadth, ranging from Days with my Father, an intimate photographic essay documenting his father’s decline into dementia, to Maybe, an exploration of aging and mortality, to A New Kind of Beauty, an examination of cosmetic surgery and contemporary ideals of the body. His work is held in the permanent collections of the Houston Museum of Fine Arts and the University of South Florida Contemporary Art Museum, and has been exhibited at major institutions including the Deutsche Hygiene Museum, Deichtorhallen Hamburg, Eastman House, and the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing. His books have been published by Chronicle, Dewi Lewis, and Twin Palms, and his work has appeared in Aperture, the British Journal of Photography, and Harper’s, among others.
