Voices of the Tempest | Voces de la Tempestad by Adriana Groisman

Adriana Groisman is an Argentine-born, New York-based photographer and documentary storyteller whose work has been published in The Smithsonian Magazine, Newsweek, The Atlantic, Aperture, and GEO, and exhibited internationally. Voices of the Tempest is the result of more than a decade of work on the Falklands/Malvinas War, the seventy-four-day conflict between Great Britain and Argentina fought in 1982. Beginning in 2003, Groisman gathered close to 300 hours of written and photographic testimonies from Argentine and British veterans and Falkland Island civilians, creating a work of reconciliation that sets the personal against the official, individual voices in place of national narratives. Named one of the best photography books of 2017 by LensCulture, the book is structured in four sections: Sea, Sky, and Land, each representing the different armed forces, and Fire, which addresses reconciliation and its role in working toward acceptance and peace.

A project of this scale and moral complexity demanded a book design equal to its ambition. de.MO worked closely with Groisman to design the dual-language English and Spanish edition, published by Editions Larivière, documentary photography book design that balances the weight of testimony with the precision of visual storytelling. The structure honors Groisman’s four-part framework while allowing the interplay of written voices, landscape photography, and personal accounts to breathe across every spread.
